How to use the calculator
Choose whether to calculate pace, finish time, distance, or convert pace and speed.
Select units and enter the requested values. Time has separate mobile-friendly hour, minute and second controls.
Read the automatic result in both metric and imperial units. Use the split planner for kilometre, mile, 400 m or custom intervals.
Pace versus speed: pace is time per distance; speed is distance per hour. Treadmills normally display speed, so the converter is useful when a plan gives pace. Choose min/km for metric races and min/mile for mile-based training. Predictions assume one constant average pace; terrain, conditions, stops and fatigue can make real performance differ.
Worked examples
25-minute 5K pace
Time ÷ distance = 25 min ÷ 5 km = 5:00 min/km (8:03 min/mi).
Marathon at 9:00 min/mile
42.195 km ÷ 1.609344 = 26.2188 mi. 9 min/mi × 26.2188 = 235.97 min = 3:55:58.
Because pace divides elapsed time by distance, its unit is time per kilometre or mile. Convert decimal minutes by multiplying the decimal part by 60: 5.5 minutes is 5 minutes 30 seconds. Calculations retain full precision; displayed paces and times round to the nearest second, speeds to one or two decimals, and distances to sensible precision.
Frequently asked questions
Methodology and accuracy
This calculator uses the formulas above and the exact international conversion of 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres. Inputs are treated as elapsed time, measured distance and constant average pace or speed. Internal calculations retain floating-point precision; clocks round to the nearest second. Small differences can result when a displayed rounded value is reused.
