What “human battery” means
Your metabolism releases chemical energy from food to maintain organs, regulate temperature, move muscles and support everything else your body does. Expressing that energy in watt-hours makes its scale easier to picture.
Energy is not power. A kilowatt-hour is an amount of energy. A watt is a rate: one joule per second. This calculator spreads a full day's metabolic energy evenly over 24 hours to report average power.
Energy conversion formula
Nutrition Calories are kilocalories. The calculator uses the thermochemical conversion:
1 kcal = 4,184 J
1 Wh = 3,600 J
average W = kcal/day × 4,184 ÷ 3,600 ÷ 24
For 2,000 kcal/day: 2,000 × 4,184 ÷ 3,600 = 2,324.44 Wh/day, then 2,324.44 ÷ 24 = 96.85 W.
How the body estimate works
The optional adult estimate first calculates resting energy expenditure (REE) with the simplified Mifflin–St Jeor equation:
female term: REE = 10W + 6.25H − 5A − 161
male term: REE = 10W + 6.25H − 5A + 5
W is weight in kilograms, H is height in centimetres and A is age in years. Estimated daily energy is then REE × PAL. PAL is the ratio of total to resting energy expenditure.

Direct calorie-to-energy conversion is unit arithmetic. The body-details method is only a population-based estimate: actual expenditure can differ because of body composition, health, medications, pregnancy, temperature, measurement error and day-to-day activity. The original Mifflin study included healthy adults aged 19–78.

Is resting energy the same as total daily energy?
