Welcome to Starlight Tools (“we”, “our”, “us”). This page explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you visit starlighttools.org.

1. Who we are

Starlight Tools is a micro-software project operated from the United Kingdom.

2. What data we collect

Basic technical data (logs) – your IP address, browser type, date/time and pages visited. Stored by our hosting provider (Netlify) for ≤ 30 days for security/debugging.
Ad & analytics cookies – Google AdSense sets cookies (e.g., NID, IDE) to measure ad performance and avoid fraud.
Consent records – our Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) stores your consent choices in the first-party cookie euconsent-v2.
We intentionally do not collect names, emails, or user-generated content you process in the “Add Text to Image” tool; all processing occurs locally in your browser.

3. Why we collect it

Legitimate interest – operate and secure the website.
User consent – personalise or measure advertising (Google AdSense) only after you grant consent via the CMP banner.

4. Cookies & similar technologies

We use cookies only for (a) remembering your consent choices and (b) serving/analysing ads. You may disable non-essential cookies at any time through the banner or your browser settings. More on Google’s ad cookies: policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

5. Your rights (GDPR / UK DPA 2018)

You can request to:

Access the personal data we hold about you;
Rectify inaccurate data;
Erase data, restrict processing, or object to processing;
Receive a portable copy of your data.

6. Data retention

Server logs: ≤ 30 days. Ad & consent cookies: per Google’s default expiry or until you clear them.

7. Data sharing & international transfers

We do not sell personal data. Google LLC (United States) processes ad-related data under Standard Contractual Clauses and Google’s EU User Consent Policy.

8. Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we knowingly collect no data from them.

9. Changes

Policy updates appear here. Material changes will show a new “effective” date.
