Age clocks are strict
Premiums can climb every birthday because expected claims rise with age. Some plans stop new enrollments past a certain age but still allow renewals.

Large breeds and certain purebreds carry higher orthopedic or hereditary risk. Mixed breeds often price lower thanks to broader gene pools.
Choosing 70% vs 90% reimbursement can swing premiums a lot. Pairing a higher deductible with a lower reimbursement is a common budget-friendly combo.
Accident waits are often just days, but illnesses or cruciate/hip conditions can have longer waits—fine print matters if your pet is already showing symptoms.
Routine care (vaccines, dental cleanings) usually needs an add-on wellness rider. Base accident/illness plans typically exclude it.
We start from a base monthly premium and apply pet, location and plan design multipliers (species, breed risk, age, weight, neuter status, vet-cost index, claims, annual limit, reimbursement, deductible and type). Optional wellness/dental/exam/alternative therapy add-ons are flat monthly costs. We show monthly and annual totals, with tax applied per your setting.
This calculator is an educational estimator that shows how typical pet insurance pricing can move based on your choices. It uses a transparent base cost and applies clear multipliers for species, breed risk, age, size/weight, location vet-cost index, claims history, and plan design (annual limit, reimbursement %, deductible, and deductible type). The goal is to help you run “what-if” scenarios privately in your browser. It is not a quote or advice, and it doesn’t reflect a specific insurer’s underwriting rules in the UK, EU, or US.
We start with a base monthly cost representing a mid-risk cat in a medium-cost area on a balanced plan (e.g., £/$/€5k limit, 80% reimbursement, moderate deductible). We multiply by your pet factors (species, breed tier, age, weight, neuter status) and location/claims modifiers. We then apply plan design multipliers (limit, reimbursement, deductible, deductible type) and add any flat costs for optional extras. Finally, we apply your local tax rate (IPT/VAT) and display monthly and annual totals, plus a clear breakdown table and CSV export.
Important: Real policies vary by provider and jurisdiction and may include waiting periods, exam requirements, age/breed restrictions, bilateral condition rules, and exclusions for pre-existing conditions.
